HOW TO REALIGN A MITRE SAW BLADE

If you’re planning to take on a new DIY project, ensuring that your mitre saw blade is aligned is essential to achieving precise and accurate cuts. By taking the time to properly calibrate your saw, you’ll save yourself a lot of time and frustration down the line, and be able to tackle even the most challenging DIY projects with ease.

HOW TO TUNE YOUR MITRE SAW TO GET YOU ACCURATE CUTS

Before starting your project it’s a great idea to check that your mitre saw is cutting square, as over time in use the saw can naturally get out of alignment. These tips are designed with our 2100W Double Bevel Sliding Mitre Saw in mind, but you should be able to apply them to other mitre saws as well.

Start with the base being perfectly level. Using a square, check the fence is at 90 degrees to the base. Now that we know that our fixed parts are square it’s now time to look at the moving parts. Get a piece of timber and cut it at 90 degrees, then check it with a square.

HERE’S HOW TO SET THE SAW SO IT’S CUTTING SQUARE

Grab a square put it against the rear fence then rotate the base until the blade is in alignment with the square. Now that the saw is cutting square it’s time to adjust the gauge on the saw. Undo the screw and move the pointer on the gauge to zero. Grab a scrap piece of timber and set it at 90 degrees, then cut straight down and check it with a square.

Undo the lever at the back and make your first adjustments, and any finer adjustments with the grub screw until the mitre saw blade is in alignment with a square. Lock off the grub screw and the lever at the back, then adjust the needle on the front to zero.

COMPLETE ONE LAST CUT AS A FINAL CHECK THAT IT’S CUTTING SQUARE

A very handy tool is a digital degrees measuring device like this one because it means you won’t need to do as many test cuts to get your mitre saw square. As a final double check have a play with cuttings of 45 degree angles and see if you can make a 90 degree join.
